Kanika unwilling to stretch Bikhri..
B.R.Chopra had bought the rights to the novel Vyavdhan written by Shanti Kumari Bajpai and wanted to make a film based on it. He had even cast stars like Sunil Dutt, Rajendra Kumar, Meena Kumari and Nutan to play the lead roles. He, however wanted to change the novel’s tragic ending to a happy one and this created differences between him and the writer and film was shelved. Aired on Doordarshan, the serial is directed by Lekh Tandon and has music by Khayyam. The others in the cast include Bharat Kapoor, Jatin Sial, Divyaa Dwivedi and Avinash Tewari in important roles. The serial is about two girl-friends who sacrifice for each other. They promise to get their respective offsprings married to each other but one of the friends dies. “The other one, Mani is determined to fulfill the promise and in the process loses her house and son,” informs Kanika who plays Mani. The top-ranking serial on DD has completed 46 episodes last Sunday. Says Kanika, “This serial is a tribute to Amma and we are sticking to the novel where the story will end in 48 episodes. DD has given us an extension of 104 episodes but we don’t want to play around with Amma’s novel and will not drag it.”
