Stars: Elisha Cuthbert, Jesse Bradford, William Abadie (II), Austin Basis, Filippo Bozotti
CREATIVE QUOTIENT
It’s a high recall of the Hindi film Ugly Aur Pagli starring Mallika Sherawat and Ranvir Sheory. Both the latter and My Sassy Girl have their origins in a Korean film that has been credited by the Hollywood version as based on Jae-young Kwak ’s novel. The original saw actor Jeon Ji-Hyun shoot into prominence in the starring role that Elisha Cuthbert takes over here as Jordan Roark, the perpetually-drunk girl whom Charlie Bellow (Jesse Bradford) falls for when he saves her from injuring herself in the subway.
TECHNICAL EXPERTISE
Both lead actors are good-looking, but they lack chemistry, making their meetings very superficial and cold. The movie has a slick ending, though the respective back stories detract from the main narrative. Director Yann Samuell and writer Victor Levin have done justice to this romantic comedy.
Verdict
One for direction. One for script.
