A lot of your fans have ridiculed the title Quantum Of Solace. Comment
Quantum Of Solace was my title. We had discussed a lot on this topic but as soon as the name came in, I was convinced that it would be the perfect title for a Bond flick. Though people find it funny, it works out really well considering the script of this movie.
Apparently you often got injured on the sets while shooting.
I sliced off the end of my finger and lost the power in it but it really healed fast. There's only a small scar now. I was slamming a door on Mathieu’s face so I deserved it. Then I got eight stitches on my face due to a kick but nothing really to worry about since I was back at work immediately. It's tiny stuff. Compared to so many other things that happened, it’s nothing.
Is there any difference when you are playing Bond for the second time?
I knew this one is truly special and I really needed to put in my best as far as the work is concerned, I knew we had to try something different. And for me personally, it changed me. Yeah I have. Now, I have a different approach towards my life. So it was different, rather it was a privilege to play this character for the second time.
What was that one thing about the script that you absolutely loved?
The story starts immediately after Casino Royale ended and sees a broken- hearted Bond trying to unravel the mystery of exactly what caused the death of the woman with whom he fell in love, Vesper Lynd. With this one, I was involved for months before we started shooting; It’s been more than just the shooting period. The script has more emotions along with the legacy of action to keep the tradition of James Bond alive.
How do you balance between being such a celebrated name and leading a normal life?
Its difficult. I’m really fortunate to be a celebrated name; I’m not that unusual, just an ordinary guy but one thing is for sure, I'm really assertive and serious about my goals. I had a very happy upbringing; I was very protected and looked after. Usually, I like to spend time with my girlfriend Satsuki Mitchell and I train a lot.
Aren’t you worried about getting typecast in action-oriented roles?
I am open to action; I am fortunate enough to have played a variety of characters in my stint with the showbiz. Playing a different character every time is really an interesting thing and fun to be. I am always ready for action and playing James Bond doesn't limit my acting, rather it gives a unique edge to it and I am very comfortable to be recognised as James Bond. But in the long run, I would surely like to play different types of characters since it’s a dream. I do roles that excite me be it romantic or action. After all you perform at your best only for the task which is accepted by your heart and in which the audience would applaud your skills and capabilities.
Have you ever been to India?
No, I have never got a chance to go there. But what I know about India is that it's a beautiful and sacred country. It has enjoyed a great cultural heritage, so visiting India will truly be an enchanting experience.
What is one thing you like about India?
It is a colourful mix of diverse traditions and cultures which is rare to find in this world. The first impression that crosses my mind about India is the awesome hospitality that one gets when visiting India. The people here are very caring. Being in such a beautiful and serene environment one really feels very special.
Are you interested in Indian cinema?
I know that the Indian film industry is full of talented people but I am pretty busy in my shooting schedules here. Let’s see what’s written in destiny. Probably I would work there sometime in the near future.
Is there any Indian actress you would like to work with?
I can’t comment specifically.
Who is your favourite Bond from the five before you?
This is a pretty difficult one; all the actors who have portrayed this awesome character are enormously talented people so it's very difficult to pick and choose one of them. But since I do have to choose I believe Sir Sean Connery did a wonderful job and elegantly justified the character.
Will we see you driving an Aston Martin again in the film or some new vehicle?
Yes it would be the same old Bond baby in Quantum Of Solace as well.
One unique quality that we will define Quantum Of Solace?
It has more adventure and thrill than Casino Royale.
Your favourite line in the film?
“You have one shot, take a deep breath. Make it count.”
Is there a sequel in the offing?
I believe in one thing at a time; so presently I am focussed on Quantum Of Solace and maybe in the future there may come a sequel; who knows; but for now it’s only Quantum Of Solace.
