Mumbai, October 10:: Discovering patriotism

The story of Heroes is based on a road trip that leads two young lads to discover the true meaning of patriotism and heroic endeavours. Sammy (Sohail Khan) and Ali (Vatsal Seth) are bosom pals. Where Sammy is eccentric and high-spirited with an uncanny knack of finding humour in the weirdest of situations, Ali is quiet and mature.

As a part of a project from their film school, the two are asked to deliver three letters to different parts of the country. What they do not realise is that through their journey they will discover a new meaning of life.

On their way they meet Malkar Singh (Salman Khan), a simple villager and Kuljit Kaur (Preity Zinta), who despite being a girl is like a son to her family. They also run into Vikram Shergill (Sunny Deol) who fears nothing and his brother Dhananjay Shergill (Bobby Deol) who lives life to the fullest.

Dr Naqvi (Mithun Chakraborty)’s love for his son Sahil (Dino Morea) knows no bounds. And Sahil believes in only one fact and that is an army uniform is meant to save lives.

Director
Samir Karnik

“Heroes is a commercial entertainer and not a war film. The army background is just symbolic about the individuals, but the movie has no focus on war like say a Border or a LoC Kargil had.

I prefer working on good stories irrespective of the genre in which my film would be classified in. I don’t think that I would want to focus on a particular genre of film. Any exciting story that is good enough to adapt on celluloid is preferred.

I wrote the film along with Aseem Arora and it is based on a road trip of two boys played by Sohail Khan and Vatsal Seth. They travel 1000 miles to meet their destiny. The premise about the film is that all of us have a hero inside us. It is only the experiences of life that makes us realise it.

One cannot get the likes of Sunny Deol, Mithun Chakraborty, Salman Khan and Preity Zinta to share screen space together everyday. But a multi star film like this benefits the audience as fans of all these actors can go to watch the film.

Heroes was shot outdoors in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi.”

THE BUZZ

The ensemble cast will be the biggest attraction for Heroes, but it won’t be a success guarantor. The film explores a unique subject, that of patriotism in common citizens and if director Karnik serves up a good film it could give Salman, Sunny, Bobby and Preity their first hit of the year.
