: Indrani Haldar, who plays Sujata in Sony’s soap by the same name, has bagged the best actress award at the Madrid International Film Festival (Spain) for her role in a Bengali film, Jara Brishtite Bhijechhilo (Those Who Were Drenched In Rain). In the film directed by Anjan Das, Haldar plays the role of a woman, who walks out of marriage after being subjected to repeated marital rape and starts living her life on her own terms with her poet-lover.

“Recently, while I was shooting for Sujata, I came to know of this news from Das (the director). While I got the best actress award, JBB got the special jury award for the second-best film. Das accepted the award on my behalf on Monday,” says an excited Halder, for whom this was the first international award. “The film is a love story of a poet and his muse. The character that I play in the film always loved the poet but could not express it. Only when she finds her marriage absolutely unbearable she walks out and expresses herself,” says Haldar, who bagged National Award of Best Actress for Dahan in 1997. Incidentally, Sujata is also a character who is neglected by her family members.
