: Both Jodhaa Akbar and Race from the UTV stable are said to be the two major hits of the year so far. While Jodhaa..., now in its 8th week, is still going strong collecting Rs 38,33, 749 (domestic) at an average/print return of Rs 58,087 in its seventh week, Race in its second week collected Rs 12,99, 67, 237 at an average per print cost of Rs 2,21,455. To ascertain which film is doing better among the two and which of these will be the ultimate winner, we spoke to a few trade analysts. “Race is definitely a hit,” asserts trade analyst Amod Mehra adding, “The film, the production cost of which is between Rs 25 to Rs 26 crore, has already bagged Rs 60 crore worldwide. The figures itself says it all.” In its third week now, Race has collected Rs 2,33,02, 643 that includes collections of Thane also. Compared to that, Jodhaa Akbar had collected Rs 3, 28, 76, 599 (domestic) of 90 prints in the second week.
“It is difficult to ascertain which film will be the ultimate winner. Right now since Race is still in its preliminary stages it is a difficult proposition. But all said and done both the films are doing well and there shouldn’t be much of a difference between the two when the overall figures are taken into consideration,” says Taran Adarsh.
“The overall business of Jodhaa Akbar till date has been good but that of Race is excellent. The collections of Race have been better since day one but there have been several obstructions in the case of Jodhaa Akbar. Besides the protests and ban thereof of the period film in states like Rajasthan, UP and MP. The business of both the films have been uniform so far and according to me, the net income will have a marginal difference,” says N.P.Yadav.
