: Simran, who started her career as an anchor for the 1995s popular TV show Super-Hit Muqabla, is returning to the television with Simran Thirai, produced by Pyramid Saimira Productions International Ltd.
“Starting with writer Sujatha’s (the eminent engineer turned writer who passed away recently) Vannathu Poochi directed by veteran actress Sri Priya, Simran plays the lead in 12 stories spread over 12 months each with 20-25 episodes directed by popular film directors. It is a unique entertainment and perhaps the first of its kind on Indian Television screens. The quality will be on par if not more than what one watches in regular films. Our aim is to provide the viewers with quality entertainment,” said P.S. Saminathan, MD addressing a large turnout of press people at the Residency Towers, Chennai.
Simran, on her part, is excited about the project. “Earlier I had received many offers but they were of the routine kind. When Subha Venkat (creative head, Pyramid Saimira) flew down to Delhi and narrated 12 different stories I thought they want me to choose one from among the several stories as I liked all of them. When she said that they would produce all the 12 stories I was surprised. I assure you that they will not bore you or test your patience. They are truly good stories and entertain you,” Simran said.
Director Ahathiyan who is directing one of the stories, Sri Priya, Rangarajan of Jaya TV and Subha Venkat spoke on the occasion. Simran Thirai will be aired on Jaya TV Mon- Friday at 8-30 pm from March 3.
Upendra as Budhivantha
Popular director K. Balachander did a successful film Naan Avan Illai with Gemini Ganesan three decades ago, which was supposedly based on a popular Marathi play Mythunali of the fifties. It was about a guy who deceives five girls and escapes. But later all five join hands to teach him a lesson. Last year the film was remade in Tamil with the same title and had Jeevan in the lead with five heroines and it was successful. Now producers Mohan and Sankare Gowda have made Budhivantha, on the same lines in Kannada. The film is ready for release soon.
Starring Upendra, Pooja Gandhi, Saloni, Suman Ranganath, Lathanya and Brunda, it has music by Sadhu Kokila. Of the six songs, one was picturised in China, while two were shot in Kashmir.
