AAMIR KHAN
I am so happy to hear about the audience poll. I would like to thank my audience for their love and faith. I love entertaining my audience and I feel blessed that I enjoy what I am doingÂ’

Thank you! The most exciting thing about being chosen by a multiplex audience is that they are exacting and they make experimental, different type of films successful. If you are popular among that audience then it gives you the confidence and credit to accept slightly more off-beat subjects
The rise of multiplexes in every Indian city is changing our movies, the Screen C-Fore survey revealed. ItÂ’s not just the comfortable seating, the flavoured popcorn and better sound and picture quality that make the difference, a whopping 84 per cent of people think that Â’plexes have had an effect on the kind of movies being made.WhatÂ’s more, 86 per cent people prefer a multiplex to a single theatre.
However, when it comes to the most paisa-vasool stars, the survey among the film-goers in the age group of 25-45 across seven cities reveals that there is no distinction between a multiplex or single theatre audience. In the race to the most paisa-vasool multiplex stars were Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan among others. Aamir, who had topped our survey last year as the actor who best represents the changing face of Bollywood with 28 per cent votes, retained the numero uno position this time with exactly the same percentage of votes! Other stars who were chosen were Shah Rukh Khan with 23 per cent and Akshay Kumar with 18 per cent.
Among the heroines too we have our last yearÂ’s winner Katrina Kaif leading the pack with 31 per cent votes. She is followed by Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra who stood second and third with 18 and 16 per cent votes. Katrina, who has had a string of hits and is currently basking in the glory of New York, has a margin of 13 per cent over her rivals.Abhay Deol expectedly made it to the top of the charts as the actor whose career changed with the arrival of multiplexes. The actor, who till Dev D was hovering on the periphery of success, is now in a league of his own and came up trumps in our survey with 46 per cent votes. Farhan Akhtar, who rocked with Rock On!! and later Luck By Chance is second with 41 per cent followed by Shahid Kapoor (37 per cent). Of the heroines whose career has been put on the fast track after the multiplexes is Konkona Sen Sharma who made an impact as a wannabe actress struggling for a break in Luck By Chance. She notched up 38 per cent votes followed by the gorgeous Katrina Kaif and the pretty Sonam Kapoor with 27 per cent votes.
The movies that topped as multiplex films include Anurag KashyapÂ’s modern take on Devdas - Dev D - with a whopping 66 per cent vote followed by Luck By Chance (62 per cent) and Kaminey (47 per cent). Not surprisingly, films with urbane sensibilities or movies that are bold with kissing scenes catering to audiences in metro cities were voted as multiplex movies with 46 per cent followed by those that are about the youth with 33 per cent votes. Another revelation in the survey is about people prefering to watch a regional film with sub-titles (51 per cent) as compared to world cinema (49 per cent). Of course, there is very little margin between the two but yes, regional films are increasingly becoming the order of the day at multiplexes. The Hollywood-Hindi ratio is still wide with 62 per cent of the people opting for a desi film over an English one (38 per cent). Whether itÂ’s the multiplex or single-screen theatre, romantic films rate high on the audience list. Thirty- nine per cent of people want to see the chemistry between Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayengewhile 37 per cent opt for Karan JoharÂ’s yuppy romance Kuch Kuch Hota Hai followed by the tragic love story of Aamir Khan- Juhi Chawla in Qayamat Se Qayamat.Which means, for all the changes that multiplexes have brought in, the charm of romance remains..
