Siti Cable raided in Rohtak

The Civil Lines Police Staff of Rohtak Police, assisted by representatives of the Indian Media Protection Against Copyright Theft (IMPACT), raided the control room of Chanakya Communication Network Pvt Ltd (Siti Cable), in Narayana Complex, Civil Road Rohtak (Haryana) on October 14 and booked the company for screening movies in violation of the Copyright Act 1957 (as amended). This was stated in a press release issued by IMPACT.

According to the release, during the raid it was noticed that Chanakya Communication Network Pvt Ltd (Siti Cable) was distributing the signals of Hindi film Rang starring Jeetendra, Amrita Singh and Divya Bharati publicly through their cable TV network to their line operators, franchises and subscribers, for their personal monetary gains.

Chanakya Communication Network did not have the copyright of the said film to broadcast or communicate to the public on their cable TV network. Therefore, the release said, an infringement of Copyright Act 1957 (as amended) under section 51, 52-A, 63 and 68-A was being committed. The Cable Copyright of the above film is with the Company M/s Cable Video (India) Ltd. Chanakya Communication Network was screening Rang through its cable network without the permission from the copyright owner Cable Video (India) Ltd. The police seized the VHS Cassette of Rang, which was being screened at the time of the raid, one 25-inch colour TV and one VCR worth Rs. 40,000.
