JAB PYAAR KISISE HOTA HAI
Tips’ second independent venture, Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai, has had a decent opening all over India. Besides being the producers of this love story the bosses at Tips are so confident of their film that they are practically distributing the film themselves in most of the territories. The film stars Salman Khan, Twinkle Khanna and Johnny Lever. The music composed by Jatin-Lalit is already toping all the charts. Lyrics are by the ever youthful Anand Bakshi and is directed by Deepak Sarin who had earlier directed Yash Chopra’s Aaina.

MARD
Over a decade ago, Amitabh Bachchan had played the lead role in Manmohan Desai’s Mard and this time round Mithun Chakraborty does so in director Ganpati Vora’s Mard released this week. As just last week another Mithun film Hitler, had been released, the overdose of Mithun starrers has affected the opening of this film.

NEXT WEEK

DUSHMAN
Pooja Bhatt’s second film as a producer, Dushman, is another hard hitting film directed by debutante Tanuja Chandra. Kajol plays a double role of sisters, one of which gets raped and murdered and the other tracks down the culprit and punishes him with the help of a blind ex-armyman, Sanjay Dutt. The music is by Uttam Singh of Dil To Pagal Hai fame.

SHAM GHANSHAM
Subhash Ghai’s younger brother Ashok Ghai’s who, as an independent producer, has given hits such as Ram Lakhan and Jaan, takes a bow as director in Sham Ghansham which stars Chandrachur Singh, Priya Gill, Arbaaz Khan and Pooja Batra. The music is by Vishal.

JEANS
Shankar’s Jeans which is already a big hit down South has not had the same luck in its dubbed version. Mumbai is the only place where it has just managed to register decent collections at 69.84% of the capacity. At other places it’s been outrightly rejected. The music of AR Rahman just didn’t become a rage nor was the audience in the mood to see the costliest film in India as the film did not have a saleable hero. Another obvious reason could be the film’s weird title Jeans which just did not make sense as the reference in the film is to ‘genes’!

HITLER
When Hitler himself was such a hated character how could the public respond favourably to KC Bokadia’s Mithun Chakraborty starrer Hitler! The film’s collections are as low as 45% in the very first week.

DUPLICATE
Duplicate, being an out and out comedy, it was supposed to do well at least where comedies are appreciated — in Maharashtra and South India, but this slapstick comedy in which Shah Rukh plays a tribute to Jerry Lewis/Jim Carrey by copying him, somehow has not jelled with the audience. In Mumbai it slid from a respectable 90% in the first week to 72% in the second. At other places it is sure to be a loss for its distributors.

CHHOTA CHETAN
This holiday treat for children continues to do good business even in the fifth week. In Mumbai if the film registered 90% collections in its fourth week, in the fifth it was rocksteady at 95%.
