Failure of star-stadded
films worries exhibitors

The president
of the Theatre Owners Association, UA Thadani, has expressed concern over
the failure of several star-studded films like Jeans and Duplicate, which
were really being counted upon by exhibitors to boost the box-office collections,
especially Duplicate. Thadani cited the example of an exhibitor who released
the Shah Rukh-starrer Duplicate in Gujarat and lost an estimated Rs 30 lakhs.
According to him, the past three months have been really trying for the
exhibition sector. A majority of exhibitors have been ruined with their
business equation really going wrong. Most of them are worried because they
are releasing only one film a week, due to the shortage of films. Earlier
there were 2-3 releases a week, and the losses used to be compensated partly
by one or the other film but thats not the case any more, he
disclosed.
