A year ago,
when financier-distributor, Bharat Shah, unofficially announced his plans
to cut down on film-financing, the news had anxious producers frantically
calling up at his office to find out the truth. It wasnt surprising,
considering the fact that Shah practically called the shots in the industry,
with a majority of films presented and financed by him. Meanwhile, even his
distribution office, VIP Enterprises, decided to play safe by backing only
those films which were guaranteed bets at the box-office. Playing safe
seemed to be the logical thing to do, when the industry was going through
a very big crisis, Shah recalls.
