HUM TO MOHABBAT KAREGA

KUNDAN SHAH KI BAAT HAI
TO ZAROOR KOI BAAT HAI

If it is Kundan Shah it must make sense... If the subject didn’t make sense Kundan who has made the greatest sacrifices, thrown out some of the major offers that have come his way when they didn’t make any impact... If it is the same Kundan Shah who made some of the most popular TV serials like and some good films like the latest released Kya Kehna!... If it was not Kundan Shah working with some of the stars of the new generation for the first time...

If Kundan Shah had not signed on the dotted line and made a commitment to himself to make an interesting film that would entertain, enlighten and even educate, producer KP Singh’s Hum To Mohabbat Karega would have been just another of the hundreds of love stories being made all over from Dahisar to Dehradun. But it is Kundan Shah and all that Kundan Shah and his standards of cinema, his craze for quality films more than any other director. And, so, Mr Singh seems to be in safe hands. He seems to have a good film which he takes pride in owning, even a very good film, a surprise packet. Kundan Shah naam hai uska who has made memorable films like Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron and Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa (one of the first few films of an unknown actor called Shah Rukh Khan).

This Shah can not make an average film, forget making a meaningless film, forget making a forgettable film. In this Shah Hindi films has a saviour who can come up with ideas to save a drowning ship, a crashing aircraft, a headlong crash. He knows the ways. He shows he knows the ways and he succeeds. He, (this Shah) is the kind of filmmaker we need today to make films which make sense, make us feel good, make us feel proud and even make money, money, maybe some more money since Shah has stars like Bobby Deol and Karisma Kapoor for company for the first time. He is not the kind of filmmaker who makes films for his own satisfaction. He is not the arty-arty kind of filmmaker. He makes films for the people, for his producers who put in all their money and his own creative self more than anything else which he cannot see insulted or humiliated under any circumstances. He doesn’t want
filmmaking to be a war-time, tense experience. He wants filmmaking to be a loving, peaceful, encouraging, enthralling, enlivening experience.

And if the story is also by this Shah toh kya kehna? Suno aur kuch na kehna. So, suno Kundanji ki kahani in Hum To Mohabbat Karega. So here goes.....

“Can a waiter Raju (Bobby Deol) ever dream of falling in love with a popular TV reporter Geeta (Karisma Kapoor). He can. Even if Geeta, a crime reporter on Channel 2000, doesn’t give him a second look he is sure woh to mohabbat karega.

The early stages. Raju can only get as close to Geeta as the TV studio, waiting for an autograph or a wave of the famous hand. The rest is Raju’s delightful romantic fantasy going wild all the way.
Till one day he is in for the greatest shock surprise of his life. He opens the door of his humble home to find Geeta at the door. It is like a dream come true for him. But Geeta has not come in with dreams for him. She has brought in some shocks which shatter him. Geeta is on duty, investigating a murder. Raju is the waiter who served the dead man his last meal. Geeta tries to make Raju talk, get some clues out of him. Raju forgets all about the murder. He is thrilled at his “crime” of bringing Geeta to him, straight to him, his home. He knows nothing about the murder but he wants to spend more time with Geeta. So she goes on asking questions and he goes on telling her one lie after another about the murder because he feels that’s the only way he can be close to her. Geeta’s charm drags him to the TV studio for an interview. He tries to get away from the in
terview but Geeta is too smart, too strong too. She has him trapped, nailed and is about to be crucify him.

The mafia on the other hand is active. It keeps watching Raju’s interview. They realise it can get them into trouble. They want Raju’s silence, somehow. The police takes Raju away. The interrogation becomes intense. In one of his weak moments he unwillingly gives the description of his best friend as the killer. Raju is now neck deep in trouble which keep growing. The mafia is after him, his friend’s life is in danger and he is trapped by the winning ways of Geeta...

It’s time to think of escaping but Geeta always comes in the way. She stops Raju every time he tries to step out and walk away from the trap he has shut himself in. She is a woman of substance, a woman of today who is going to be the tougher human among humans in time to come soon. She keeps tracing, tracking and threatening Raju. He loves it all because he loves her. But she is bound by duty. She also has the feeling that her investigations may lead her to the killer of her brother, Vikram. Raju changes when he listens to Geeta’s sad story. The gutsy Raju promises Geeta that he would do all that he can to help Geeta find her brother’s killer. The two work out several plans together. They come closer and Geeta realises how much Raju loves her. Love forgets all barriers. The two fall in love and when the lovers join forces trouble is not far away for the trouble-shooters.

Raju is in a dilemma. He doesn’t know how to tell Geeta that he has been lying to her and the police all the time. The smart Geeta comes to know the truth about Raju before he can. She is shattered. She wonders how she, a strong, sharp, professional TV reporter could surrender to a mere waiter’s viles. Geeta leaves Raju. And Raju’s world is in a shambles. He has to pay for his “crime”, his lies created on the spot. How does Raju redeem himself? How does he change all the lies he has told all the time into some shocking truths? How does he win back Geeta’s love? How does he save Vikram, the innocent victim? How does he save his best friend who he was ready to sacrifice to win love? How does he save his friend from the clutches of the police? Raju is in a closed net of deep trouble. He is just an ordinary waiter but he proves that when it comes to true love there is only strength which comes from love. Love defies the most dangerous designs of the grim dragon of love and Raju is free to do what he wants to. And he screams in joy - Hum To Mohabbat Karega. The film is an all-round, all-found entertainer which will not disappoint the audience. It is made as an entertainer with a touch of class. Touch it, try it, feel it and you will feel entertainment of the best kind all the way. Bobby Deol and Karisma Kapoor come together for the first time. Johnny Lever, Shakti Kapoor, Dalip Tahil and Sadashiv Amrapurkar play other key roles.

Pramod Moutho, Kashmira Shah and Razzak Khan make special appearances. Screenplay and dialogue by Ranjeet Kapoor, lyrics by Majrooh Sultanpuri and music by Anu Malik, the man who now sways the world of film music. Ashish Singh and Anurag Singh are the executive producers. Thomas A Xavier is the cinematographer. The film means many things to many people but if it is Kundan Shah, if there is Kundan Shah behind every scene shot under his care, it has to mean so much more than it is meant to mean. If it is Kundan Shah, rest assured. Enlightened entertainment is his strong point and no one can take it from him. It’s a gift which once given cannot be taken away, cannot be touched. It’s a gift that can only grow better, shine and glow stronger in all its splendour as time passes.
