There are times when just one word can create the kind of image that cannot be easily erased. It can harm, hurt and humiliate for little or no reason at all. If you ask me I can swear that Saif Ali Khan is an actor in a class of his own, an actor who is capable of reaching goals no ordinary players can. He could have been one of the leading stars today. He is already in the league of the other three Khans; Aamir, Salman and Shah Rukh. He could have been in a much better, much stronger, much more serious position if he had not given some people the opportunity to call him a “brat”.

Sajjan no more
Veteran stage and film actor Sajjan died of a heart attack at his Mumbai residence on May 15. He was 80 years old and is survived by wife, three sons and two daughters. Sajjan who began his career with Prithvi Theatres shot to fame, playing Mohammad Ali Jinnah in the controversial play, Deewar. Beginning his career in films by playing bit roles, Sajjan became hero opposite Madhubala in Saiyan, and Nargis in films like Sheesha. His last famous role was in Ramanand Sagar’s teleserial Vikram Betal.

Professional tax for filmfolk
Self employed film professionals including writers, directors, lyricists, actors, actresses, musicians, playback singers, cameramen, recordists, editors and still photographers will now have to pay professional tax as per Schedule 1 of the Maharasthra Tax Law (Levy and Amendment) Act, 2000 passed in the Legislative Assembly recently.

Ghai, Bakshi yet again
SHOWMAN Subhash Ghai may change his cast and crew with every venture. But one man’s been a fixture of sorts in the Mukta Arts camp, right from Karz, his first film, to his latest, Yaadein -- lyricist Anand Bakshi. It’s "a record of sorts anywhere in the world" according to the well-known film musicologist Vishwas Nerurkar. Subhash Ghai has already started work on Yaadein with the recording of two songs written by Bakshi and tuned by Anu Malik.

Khoobsurat goes silver
Jhamu Sughand’s Khoobsurat entered its silver jubilee week in Mumbai this week. Starring Sanjay Dutt and Urmila Matondkar, the film is written and directed by Sanjay Chhel and has music by Jatin-Lalit.
