Lifetime award for
Alkazi
Tradition took a twist, recently, when a student, Anupam Kher presented
the prestigious Chamanlal Memorial Trust’s lifetime achievement award
to his guru, Ebrahim Alkazi. Anupam was Alkazi’s student at the National
School of Drama, New Delhi from 1975 to 1978. Says Anupam, "It was
a happy, memorable occasion, more precious to me than most of the awards
I have won."
Anupam heads academy
The cultural department of the Uttar Pradesh government and the Society
of Bhartendu Academy of Dramatic Arts has appointed Anupam Kher as chairman
of the academy for a period of three years. Anupam had taught at the academy
for 18 months before he came to Mumbai in 1980.
Akhtar Jr makes debut
Farhan Akhtar, son of Javed Akhtar, makes his debut with Excel Entertainment’s
Dil Chahat Hai, which will be launched soon. Dimple Kapadia, Aamir Khan,
Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna and Preity Zinta are in the cast. Produced
by Ritesh Sidhiwani and presented by Javed Akhtar and Chandan Sidhiwani,
the film has lyrics by Javed and music by Shankar, Ehsaan & Loy.
Jadhav is Mahamandal chief
At a meeting of the executive committee of the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi
Chitrapat Mahamandal held in Mumbai on April 30, Bhaskar Jadhav was unanimously
elected its president in place of the late Vishwas Sarpotdar. Balchandra
Kulkarni was elected secretary, and Subal Sarkar as joint secretary.
