ARYANS
The new melody makers
After
their first hit Aankhon mein, the Aryans are back with their
second album Yeh Hawa Kehti Hai Kya. Though the trio of Jai, Sadu and
DJ sport a very western look, their music has an Indian flavour. These
guys, each from a different walk of life got together three years back.
Sadu(Sadashivan) who is a post graduate in organic chemistry happened
to meet DJ a civil officer in Bhopal. DJ knew Jai who was already doing
jingles and writing serials in Mumbai. "Since we all loved music
we thought of forming a band. We recorded a demo which the company liked
and thats how things happened," says Jai. The group is on a
three year contract with Universal audio and this is their second album
with them.
DJ is the guitarist and Jai and Sadu do the keyboards. "We believe
in freedom of creativity. Each of us puts forward his idea, which we all
work on," says DJ. All their songs are full of melody and a lot of
live instrumentation is involved. Unlike other contemporary bands they
are not into rock. Jai says, "I am a lover of soft and more Indian
kind of music. R D Burman is my idol". To this Sadu adds, "We
are here to give our best to music lovers and make our contribution as
musicians."
The present album has songs of different moods done in different styles
but theres a lot of melody. "We have given a lot of variety
as well. There is a techno number and even a song based on the Latino-American
style, besides the ballads," claims the trio.
Talking about the video directed by Raju Khan, they say the song was chosen
because its a very simple one and easy to catch. The young lot seems
very much impressed by their style. Their previous album was a great hit
among youngsters. "Light lyrics and easy tunes are what the youngsters
want these days and thats what we give them." What this band
aims at, is entertainment for the masses.
The way they go about composing songs is interesting, all the more because
DJ is based in Delhi. Doesn't it get a little difficult? "We do not
feel it necessary for all three to be there while composing, many songs
are composed individually by each of us. But then during the final touches
all are present."
What about the name: Aryans? "The Aryans invaded our country in the
past and thus began a whole new civilisation, similarly we want to invade
the music scene with our kind of music, which we guarantee will entertain,"
is what they have to say.
