Bumper Publicity for Refugee
JP Dutta’s Refugee is creating waves and being talked about everywhere. It looks as though the film will be another box-office event after Kaho Naa.. Pyar Hai. Despite the fact that Refugee has been sold for all the territories, the kind of unprecedented bumper pre-release publicity that JP Dutta has undertaken to draw big crowds to the theatres, has gladdened the hearts of the distributors, whose hopes have soared high.

Full-page colour advertisements of Refugee have appeared in even the national newspapers after a long time. It is being looked upon as the launch film of Abhishek Bachchan and Kareena Kapoor. Its release has an added advantage in that there is no opposition to it, this week or the next. Bichhoo, which was scheduled to be released next week but has been postponed to July 7.

Joru Ka Ghulam
The first week collections of Joru Ka Ghulam are very encouraging. According to FC Mehra, the film has done 96 per cent business in the first week in his theatre Minerva. The first week’s collections of this Govinda-Twinkle Khanna starrer came to 74 per cent in Mumbai, 55 per cent in Delhi, 72 per cent in Pune and 70 per cent in Lucknow.

Venus’ Josh is doing extremely well in Mumbai. Distributors are safe with the film, says Santosh Singh Jain. The film is continuing to do bumper business in Mumbai where it registered 92 per cent collections in the second week. In Calcutta and Delhi, the film’s collections were 70 per cent.Kya Kehna
nIn the fifth week, the film registered 50 per cent in Mumbai but 83 per cent in Delhi.

Tarkieb
Pranlal Mehta’s Nana Patekar starrer Tarkieb has been well received in Mumbai. The opening day’s collections at the Metro and Sundaram cinemas were 100 per cent. Its first-day collections at 12 other city cinemas came to 90 per cent.

Ek Raat Mere Saath
In the first week, the film collected 21 per cent in Lucknow.

English Films
American Beauty, the Oscar award winning film is running in the sixth week in Mumbai at the Regal.

The Julia Roberts starrer Erin Brockovich is running in its fourth week in Mumbai at the Sterling.

The Bo Derek starrer Tarzan The Ape Man was revived last Friday in Mumbai at the New Empire and Novelty (two shows). Boys Don’t Cry opens at the Sterling in Mumbai.
