Media
should focus on problems of state: Assam govt tells Jaitley
The
Assam government has asked the Union Information and Broadcasting Minister
Arun Jaitley for an effective media role particularly by Doordarshan and
the All India Radio in focussing on the states problems of terrorism,
ISI activities and perennial floods crippling its socio-economic development
and public peace for the last several years.
In a meeting with Jaitley in Guwahati the state government representatives
discussed the need for media management so that it can play a fearless
and meaningful role in sensitising the people and organising them to combat
the senseless brutalities of the extremists.
During the course of discussion, a set of proposals concerning overall
development and expansion of the media network had also been submitted
to the minister.
The state further requested Jaitley to release Rs. 46.69 crore immediately
for modernising and development of the Jyoti Chitraban Film Studio here,
besides demanding allotment of a 30-minute slot on television during prime
time to the state government for dissemination of correct information
to the public to counter anti-National campaign by militant organisations
and highlight policies, programmes and achievements of the central and
state governments.
Further, the minister was urged to reserve seats for students of the NE
region in the Film Technology Institute of India (FTII) Pune and the Satyajit
Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), Calcutta as well set up a branch
of SRFTI here.
The other important proposals placed before the minister included production
of documentaries, short and animation films by the Films Division to counter
insurgency, social and communal harmony, improving an promoting the states
tourism potential, upgradation of the DD network, sharing advertisement
revenue, setting up a regional recruitment board and revamping of the
State Directorate of Information and Public Relations.
