Telefilms Ltd sings MOU with Karnataka government
Zee Telefilms Ltd.(ZTL) has signed a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU)
with the Karnataka government for the right of way to lay an optic fibre
network in the state.
The MOU was signed by Rajiv Khattar, GM Commercial, on behalf of Zee Telefilms
Ltd while Vivek Kulkarni, Karnatakas IT Secretary, did the honours
on behalf of the State Government during the first session of the ongoing
Global Investors Meet (GIM) taking place in Bangalore on 5 and 6
June.
ZTL is investing over Rs.600 crores in building a Hybrid Optical Fibre/Co-axial
(HFC) cable network in Karnataka alone. Zees OFC project in Karnataka
will cover a total cable length of 1000 kms in the Iphase and is expected
to be complete in a years time. Other districts in Karnataka tobe
covered by the HFC network include Mysore, Mangalore and Dharwad. The
total investment in the I forms part of a greater plan to eventually wire
over a 100 cities in the country. The I phase of the national project
will be 26 cities across the country wired up within 24 months.
The OFC network will be laid in rings in the areas chosen
to create a backbone to facilitate broadband services-thus
making possible transmission of multiple channels including television
and internet through a single line. From a consumer point of view, this
move is expected to alter completely the world of infotainment as we know
it today. As one of Asias largest media conglomerates, Zee has access
to the last mile link through Siticable and reaches over 40 million homes
globally. Zees library of over 17,000 hours of original program
content is expected to pave the way for a marriage between the net and
entertainment services-including sports, movies, drama and of course,
news through its internet subsidiary E-Connect India Limited, which owns
the horizontal portal zeenext.com.
