Dynamic
duo
Marriage, it is said, is not only of two individuals but also of two families,
two ideologies, two opposite ways of living and the past and the present.
Torn apart by a narrow-minded decision, the Jhaveris and the Vohras are
destined to meet again when their respective children, Manisha and Manav,
fall in love. Knowing the differences of the past, they go ahead with
their relationship to prove a point that one has to learn from past mistakes.
This is what Manisha and Manav believe in and this very belief is what
Love Mein Kabhi Kabhi is all about.
While Love Mein... is a love story set against two feuding families which
are a class apart financially, Life Nahin Hai Laddoo, on the other hand,
is a story about prejudices - personal and social and bigotry and liberation.
It is also a love story which challenges the idea of love propagated by
pulp fiction. It is a story of Janki Prasad Sharma alias Laddoo who has
a huge complex about his name. He thinks he can make it big as a writer
whereas his parents force him to learn computer software. Life takes a
turn when Laddoo meets a girl in the computer class.

There is nothing common between Love Mein... where the story drives the
characters and which deals with two cultures and Life Nahi... which is
a lighter look at life and love and where the characters dominate more
than the story. In other words, in terms of story, characterisation, treatment
and presentation, both the shows are different. Moreover, while the former
is directed by Tony and Deeya Singh and is telecast on SABe TV (Thursday,
9 pm), the latter is directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya and is on Star
Plus (Thursday, 9.30 pm).
Yet, what is common between the two is that basically, both are love stories.
And both are produced by Tony and Deeya who had produced Banegi Apni Baat.
Says Deeya, "We have worked on the concept of Love Mein... and Life
Nahi... for nearly two years and in terms of look and quality both look
like DJs Films production." DJs Films, incidentally,
is their software banner under which the dynamic husband-wife duo have
produced and directed Banegi Apni Baat and Just Mohabbat. When queried
why the duo are not directing Life Nahi..., Tony says the serial is Vijays
concept and he was very keen to direct it. "And we were quite happy
to entrust him with the job because we think alike," he explains
further.
Talking about the choice of channels, Deeya says they approached Star
Plus at a time when they were looking out for different concepts. "They
appreciated Life Nahi... and mutually we worked out the details. But the
best part is that they didnt decide anything for us," she informs.
As regards the choice of SABe TV for Love Mein..., Deeya says Ambika Kuthiala
(SABe TVs senior vice president) was very keen that "we made
a show for them which is vibrant and youth-oriented."
While Banegi Apni Baat is history, Just Mohabbat, which completes three
years in July on Sony is still going strong. The show which deals with
the process of growing up and tackles four phases in a mans life
- school, college, career and marriage - focuses on the lighter side of
life and growing up. Since the serial is getting high TRPs, there is no
sign of it winding up, at least in the near future.
In seven years, the duo has made four serials. Ask them whether they are
satisfied with their output in terms of quality and quantity and both
say they are totally against assembly-line production. "We are here
to do quality work and the sole aim has been to enjoy what we are doing.
The fact that channels want to work with us is a fair indication of the
fact that our name is associated with quality and we have built our credibility,"
they say.
Their dream is also to get into motion picture production though not in
the immediate future.
