DD to set up Internet, convergence division

Doordarshan is in the process of setting up a new division which will look into Internet and convergence-related opportunities including DTH and digital broadcasting. The national broadcaster will soon set the ball rolling to appoint a director general-level person to head the division, senior Doordarshan officials said.

“It will take us around three-months to put the new division in place,” officials said. DD is yet to take a call on the issue whether the new appointment will be an internal recruitment or will scout from talent from outside. DD is expected to finalise its convergence strategy, which will include delivering content over cable, Webcasting and DTH, by June this year.

Talks were on with several national and global players including Wipro, Satyam, Infosys, AOL and Time Warner. The three-member committee appointed to study the working of Prasar Bharati in its report had suggested that DD and MTNL should explore possibilities for a tie-up for delivery of content through Net.
