Rag's in tune with Coke Actress turned VJ turned pop star, Raageshwari's debut album Duniya has managed to sell about 1.2 lakh units. Although this figure doesn't prop the album into the bestseller category, it is definitely an impressive number of units sold for a first album. But, it hasn't been all fun and games for the singer, her composer father and their sponsors Coke. According to Raageshwari, "Coke was looking for a new pop star, who would grow with time. We'd recorded the album on our own and they wanted to know what kind of music we had created. But what they liked from the beginning was the idea of a father-daughter team creating music." To test the waters before going into a deal, Coke conducted `focus-tests' all over India to find out how well the album was working with the audience. The tests were conducted with discretion and no identities were revealed to the listeners, so that they made unbiased judgements. They were also conducted with people from various age-groups and social strata. "The album scored 95 on 100," reveals the singer, "and through the tests people were very curious to know the identity of the singer and the composer." Obviously, the Duniya single topped everyone's favourite list and people reacted differently to each song. The synergy between the singer and brand, enforced by the album seems to have worked as more Duniya, is on a roll with the release of a second video -- Oye Shava. |
