Adlabs-IMAX
to set up Dome Theatre in Mumbai
Adlabs
Films, one of Indias leading motion picture processing laboratories,
has recently signed an agreement with IMAX Corporation
- Canada, for the setting up of an IMAX Dome Theatre in Mumbai.
Almost eight-storey high, the 15/70 image IMAX screen is 10 times larger
than a conventional 35mm frame and five times bigger than a standard 70mm
frame. Constructed of a special diffused matte white vinyl perforated
with thousands of tiny holes, the IMAX screen is specially made for "acoustical
transparency". Sound is the other critical element of the IMAX Experience!
The IMAX six channel, high-fidelity motion picture sound system, with
sub-bass, eliminates variation in volume and sound quality over the theatres
seating area. This allows all the members of the audience to experience
superb sound quality regardless of where they are seated.
The 520-seater IMAX Dome Theatre, which will be located in Wadala in Mumbai,
is to be part of a four-cinema multiplex and is scheduled to open its
doors for Mumbais movie going public by the end of this year.
Incidentally, the IMAX Dome, which is 30 meters wide in diameter, is the
largest IMAX dome in the world and the first of its kind in the Indian
subcontinent. The theatre, housed in an area of 942.83 square meters,
will feature 10 shows a day, with each film running approximately for
45 to 50 minutes. Adlabs Films, will operate the multiplex.
"We are pleased to bring to the Indian public this eight-storey screen,
which is a Cinematic wonder of the world and we feel that the IMAX Experience
will add another dimension to Adlabs entertainment mix. We are very
excited to be bringing the worlds premier motion picture technology
to our Indian shores," said Adlabs Managing Director, Manmohan Shetty.
