A
musical treat in store
Music lovers have been given an occasion to rejoice by Magnasound. The
music company has just released an album titled Kabhi To Nazar Milao,
which has the legend Asha Bhosle teaming up with the Canadian-based composer-singer
Adnan Sami. Sami, whos the only musician who plays Indian classical
music on the piano, has composed eight haunting, feel-good compositions,
which in the voice of Asha sound ethereal. Just listen to the title song
and youll know. The cute, roly-poly Sami, whos known the inimitable
singer as a child, is ecstatic that she sang for him and elevated his
compositions further.
Meanwhile,
the video for the title song should soon be on the air. Featuring Aditi
Gowitrikar and Salil Ankola (this is the cricketer-turned-actors
first music video), it has been directed by Amit Jalan, who owns a special
effects studio, and who has been handling promos for Magnasound. Shot
in Lonavala and Mumbai, the theme of the video is unexpressed love.
After all the cachophony that goes in the name of pop music, heres
one album which is sure to give a big boost to the pop scene.
The Sansara girls are back
The three-girl group Sansara made their presence felt with their debut
album Yeh Dil Sun Raha Hai. And one cant deny the fact that the
exotic video of the title song contributed greatly in making their album
popular. Besides presenting them well, it was shot in the unexploited
locales of Andaman. Well, the gorgeous girls from London are back with
the video of their second number Habibi, which isnt a patch on the
first one. Shot indoors, on the sets, it feels jerky with too many intercuts
of the three girls, and one cant understand the story in the video,
especially the climax. But then the song, based on an Arabian tune, is
catchy, so whos looking at the video?
Vakils new avataar
When Mohammed Vakil was unanimously chosen as the winner of the Sa
Re Ga Ma mega-finals last year, by the judges who are the stalwarts of
the music industry, the avid fans of the popular music programme were
more than happy to see that there was someone from the younger generation
dedicated to Indian classical music. Vakil was signed up by Magnasound
immediately, which released his debut album of ghazals titled Kasak. Though
one didnt see heavy promotion for it, the album got a good response
from ghazal fans. Shashi Gopalji of Magnasound is the one who has
given me constant encouragement, says Vakil.
Now the young singers next album has been recorded, and should be
released in August by Magnasound. Vakil has great expectations from his
second album, which he says presents him a new image. Kasak was
a bit serious, but my second album, which has music by Anuj Kappu, has
romantic numbers, like the ones you see in films. So it will reach out
to a more wider audience. Of course, there are raag-based numbers too,
he says with a smile.
According to Vakil, Kappu, who composes music for Sa Re Ga Ma, is a very
talented composer, really good at composing romantic songs.
In the one-year gap after his last release, Vakil has been busy performing
at concerts worldwide. I performed in Germany, and in Dubai, and
soon Ill be heading for US, he informs. But there is one performance
Vakil is really excited about. This time I performed at the Lata
Mangeshkar Alankran Samaroh in Indore, where usually the bigwigs of the
music world perform. That was a great achievement for me, he says
proudly.
Its Udhas everywhere
Pankaj Udhas is the most prolific ghazal artist going around. At a given
time, he has about three albums released by different music companies,
and you get to see him making cameo appearances in all the videos. No
ones complaining though, because ghazals in the singers soothing
voice are more than welcome. Incidentally, most of the videos of Udhas
are well-made, with a good concept.
Wonder if the singer gives his ideas and suggestions?
Anyway, his next video from the album Jaaneman is due soon. Sahiba is
the song which has been shot into a video by Colossus, who are the most
prolific on the MV scene. Models Namrata Barua and Bunty Grewal feature
in it, which is about separated lovers, who re-discover each other again.
Wonder if this one will be good too.
