BOX-OFFICE
SATYA
Ram Gopal Varma is back with another hard-hitting saga of the underworld. The man who transformed Urmila to a sex symbol with Rangeela and Daud, has totally deglamourised her for this film. Chakrabarty co-stars opposite her. Vishal is the music director.

MAJOR SAAB
Major Saab has won its first battle by taking a major opening all over India. The film is very crucial for, both, Amitabh Bachchan, and his company, AB Corp. The film’s fate will decide Amitabh’s hold on the box-office. The song Sona sona is already a craze and the hope is that the film will be one, too. Major Saab has music by Anand Raaj Anand and Adesh Shrivastava. Ajay Devgan and Sonali Bendre are the young pair in the film. The film is directed by Virender Raj Anand (Tinnu Anand).

GHULAM

Ghulam has done phenomenal business in the first week. In Mumbai it has collected a historic 100%, a feat no film in the past couple of years has managed. In the North too, especially Delhi, the film has done exceptionally well. In CI where the film had not opened as well as expected, the film’s collections grew from second day onwards. Aamir Khan has once again proved that he has the biggest draw among his contemporaries. The film’s heroine, Rani Mukerji, has finally made it to the big league. In Mumbai the second week’s advance is tremendous with the main theatre, Novelty, once again displaying house full boards in advance.

ACHANAK

Achanak is very poor in its second week, and distributors will lose heavily. Distributors have refused to divulge the second week collections
.
GHARWALI BAHARWALI

Producer Tutu Sharma’s bad luck at the box-office continues with Gharwali Baharwali. The film is David Dhawan’s fourth unsuccessful film in a row (the other three being Mr & Mrs Khiladi, Deewana Mastana and Banarsi Babu). The only silver lining to this dark cloud is that in CP the collections are face saving. In Mumbai the collections dipped to below 60 per cent.

HUMSE BADHKAR KAUN?

Sunil Shetty maintains his all-flop consistency this year. Vinashak, Aakrosh and now, Humse Badhkar Kaun? have all been lemons in the box-office. The film had to be discontinued after just two days run in Jaipur’s Moti Mahal cinema!

DUSHMAN

The film’s tax-free tag may have created a controversy in the press, but it hasn’t made a difference to the audience. Tax exemption has not changed the fate of the film. In Mumbai the film had difficulty in recovering the cinema rentals in the fourth week.
