DULHE
RAJA
T-Series; Rs. 38
Anand-Milind come up with music which is what one expects from the films
of the Raja of masses, Govinda. Sometimes it sounds like their own music
of Hero No. 1, Coolie No. 1, and so on, and sometimes Anand-Milind blatantly
plagiarise old Laxmikant-Pyarelal tunes. But overall they have composed the
music which will be a hit with the masses. The title song Dulhan to jayegi
Dulhe Raja ke saath is passable, but the next song, Ankhiyon se goli maare
is what will result in the brisk sales of the album. An extremely catchy
number, which happens to be the only one in the album not heard before, it
is superbly sung by Sonu Nigam and Jaspinder Narula. Jaspinder sounds different
and good, proving that she is not just cut out only for folksy songs. She
can sing racy numbers too with elan. Aayi ban ke root is another okay number,
but not good enough to register. Kya lagti hai hai rabba is inspired by a
Marathi folk song, but what catches your attention is its slow-fast rhythm,
which is different. And Vinod Rathod sings it zestfully making it a fun song.
The other numbers need no mention. All in all, another of those albums which
come and go.
NO
TIME
Bombino Music; Rs. 30
Devang Patel should frankly change his style because his songs are becoming
boringly predictable. The title number is nothing but an extension of Meri
marzi number with a slight variation in the music. But Scene ho jaye is quite
catchy and has been repeated on the filpside too. It sounds like his earlier
hit song Duniya jaye tel lene, aish tu kar. Gharwali starts off like Mangta
hai kya from Rangeela and in the later stages it is reminiscent of an old
Kishore Kumar number. The remaining score is so-so. The album is strictly
for guys who love Devang Patels kind of music. The rest can safely
utilise their time for better things.
ALBUM OF THE
WEEK
Asha Bhosle enthralls yet again. This time in another remix album
in which she sings her hit songs which have been recreated by
Biddu. Must say the coming together of Asha and Biddu sure spells magic.
Asha, in her inimitable voice sings her yesteryear hits with her usual panache,
and one can go the extent of saying that she even betters them. The ageless
singer infuses new life into each of the songs. And as much credit goes to
Biddu, who while remixing the golden oldies, has taken care to retain the
original integrity of the song. And yet he gives remixing a new dimension
by not just using beats, but experimenting and incorporating folk music too.
Parde mein rehne do from Shikar is the best example of how remixing should
be done. Aage bhi jaane na tu (Waqt), Ek pardesi mera dil le gaya (Phagun),
Yeh mera dil pyar ka deewana (Don), Jhumka gira re (Mera Saaya), Ude jab
jab zulfen (Naya Daur) and Jaane jaan o meri jaane jaan (Sanam Teri Kasam)
have been innovatively remixed and are a treat to the ears. Even those who
complain about remixing destroying the charm old songs will surely enjoy
listening to these remixed songs. A terrific album and a real steal at just
Rs. 55.
ALLEZ! OLA!
OLE! - THE MUSIC OF THE WORLD
CUP
Sony Music; Rs. 100
With the World Cup 98, France, fever on, this album is sure to be lapped
up by football freaks. Sony Music have a straight winner on hands. The album
has a whopping 20 songs composed for the World Cup, each having a flavour
of the football playing countries. And the songs are sung by whos who
in the world of music. There is Do you mind if I play sung by Youssou N
Dour and Axelle Red, which is the official anthem of France 98, followed
by the hit Ricky Martin official song The Cup of Life in Spanglish. Theres
I love football from Cameroon, Rendez-Vous 98 of France and England, Tamborada
of Mexico, the popular Chumbawamba song Top of the world and Its only
a game by Jam & Spoon of Germany to name a few. A compilation of World
Cup songs in one album is a bonanaza and should be a sell-out. |
