When director Taylor Hackford read the script of Devil’s Advocate, he was excited by its premise, and the story struck him, as both, pertinent and entertaining. The film is inspired by Christopher Marlowe’s play Dr. Faustus, in which the lead character sells his soul to the Devil to gain power. Keanu Reeves plays Kevin Lomax, a young Florida defence attorney, who has never lost a case. No matter how repugnant the crime, no matter how guilty the defendant, Lomax has the power to mesmerise the jury into accepting his arguments, buying into his logic, and ultimately proving his clients not guilty of the crime. |
