                   Venus releases Abhijeet’s Tapori No.1

It’s the season of No.1s. With more than a handful of films with that appellation already in the pipeline, Venus Records & Tapes has just released Tapori No.1, a pop album containing seven songs by Abhijeet. Lyrics are by Bhairav Arun, and music is by Vaishnav Devaa.

In keeping with the street-smart stance of the album, the music company has picturised a video on a song aptly titled Tu chalu hai re. The video features Lara Dutta, Abhishek Kapoor and Irfan Kamaal and is directed by Yogesh Ishwar

Abhijeet Bhattacharya, the son Dhirendranath and Kamladevi Bhattacharya, took his initial lessons in music from Pt. Shankar Bodas, a disciple of the Pt. Paluskar. He was then about fifteen years old.

But even before starting his lessons Abhijeet was a keen listener and performer of music, albeit only during family functions.
Between then and now, Abhijeet has matured into a singer par excellence to become a leading and most-sought-after performer of the day.

The youngest of four brothers, Abhijeet, came to Mumbai in 1980 to try his hand at professional singing and a couple of years later Lady Luck smiled on him when he was given a break by none other than Dev Anand to give sing in the film Anand Aur Anand. The film came and went, and so did the song featuring Abhijeet’s voice.

It was only in the late ’80s that Abhijeet’s true potential was realised and he bagged playback of films like Baaghi, Khiladi, Sadak, Yeh Dillagi, Anjaam, Darr, Judaai, Judwaa, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and of course, Yes Boss.

These days whenever a Abhijeet song is released it is tipped to be a potential hit on the charts.Abhijeet’s earlier release on Venus Records and Tapes was his first non-film venture. Titled Main Deewana Hoon the album didn’t exactly set the Ganga on fire. Tapori No.1 is a follow up to that venture, and Venus must be hoping for better things from this album.

The video follows the usual set-up of girl meets boy, starts dating him, girl meets another boy and dates him too. Destiny brings the boys together who realise that they have been had — that their girl is a chalu cheez. Their refrain becomes Tu chalu hai re.
