Album producer Pavanna and composer Niru
he Tamil pop scene, in recent times, is witnessing a boom. Many a new singer-composer have produced albums, hoping that it will catch the attention of film producers or directors in South. Unfortunately no one has been able to make a foray into the tinsel world. The duo of Pavanna (producer) and music director Niru have different intentions. They have already brought out two Tamil pop albums in Paris. Their third album titled Mongil Nila is being produced in Chennai with an aim to work in the Tamil music world. The songs in the album bring out the feelings about the duo’s motherland Sri Lanka.

Niru, a Sri Lankan Tamil, studied music at SAE in Paris. He initially started by composing jingles for advertisements. An interest in pop music spurred him to bring out two albums Oru Parvai and Aalaiyin Karangal in Paris, for which he composed. Pavanna, another Tamil youth from Sri Lanka residing in Paris, was into writing poems and lyrics. Kadalull Oru Yagam and Kalakull Oru Karuvellai are his published book of poems. He next wrote for a pop album titled Kanavugal.

The meeting between the two resulted in the album Moongil Nila. “We wanted to have the best names of the South music world to work in our album. Unnikrishnan, our friend for long, helped us in getting together a good team. Hariharan, Srinivas, Anuradha Sriram, Karthik, Shankar Mahadevan and Unnikrishnan has sung for us. Lyricists Vairamuthu, Kapilan, Paa Vijay, Palanibharathi and Arivumathi have echoed our thoughts. Pavanna too has written two songs,” said Niru while talking about the album.

The subject is about the war-affected motherland on one hand and the beauty of the countryside on the other. Film director Susi Ganesan, commenting about the album said, “The music is theme-based. In fact, very experimental too. We directors fear to put such music in our films fearing that the audience will walk out for a smoke. The boys deserve a pat for the bold venture.”

The album recorded in Chennai, will have the final mixing in Paris, after which it will be released globally. The duo are members of the Eagle of Seven, a cultural outfit based in Paris, which has produced the album.
