Film and Television Institute of India stands on the very grounds that witnessed the rolling out of some of the masterpieces of Indian Cinema from the famous Prabhat Studios. Sant Tukaram, Duniya Na Mane, Manoos and Shejari are a few examples of the masterworks created in Hindi and Marathi languages during those times.
Government of India established the Film Institute of India in the year 1960, for the purpose of imparting quality education in the field of filmmaking. In 1974, Television Training Centre in operation at Delhi was merged with the Film Institute and the Institute was renamed as Film & Television Institute of India (FTII).
FTII is today recognized as a premier institution in film and television education, not only in India, but all over the world. FTII is a member of CILECT (Centre International de Liaison des Ecoles de Cinema et de Television), the apex body of all prominent film and television schools of the world.
