SINGER
Alka Yagnik celebrates birthday

Posted online: Friday, April 01, 2005 at 0000 hours IST

lka Yagnik celebrated her birthday on 20th March with a party at Mumbai’s pub Mangi Ferra. It was an evening to remember, a night of harmony as rival singers and composers came together in an exemplary show of bonhomie as they joined the celebrations, complete with a cake-cutting ceremony and the popping of champagne minutes before midnight. If the singer’s friends and associates showered her with affection on her special day, filmdom’s Numero Uno singer in turn made sure that every single guest was made to feel special by playing the perfect host along with mother Shubha and daughter Sayesha.

After the guests were gastronomically satiated, it was clear that they had arrived into an even more festive mood. The birthday girl initiated a male vs. female antaakshari that turned the party into a rocking, rollicking affair that went on till the early hours of the morning, when Alka Yagnik and Abhijeet switched tracks and began to sing vintage Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar gems.

The guest-list included Subhash and Rehana Ghai, Milan Luthria, Ashutosh and Sunita Gowariker, Shashi and Anu Ranjan and Johnny Lever along with the Who’s Who of the music industry. Touchingly, the singer had ensured that the composers who had shaped her talent and destiny were invited, like veteran composer Anandji (with wife and son Deepak) and Rajesh Roshan (who could not attend as he was away). The late Kalyanji was represented by his son, composer Viju Shah (with wife Sunanda), and the late Laxmikant’s family by daughter Rajeshwari.

Khaiyyaam (with wife Jagjit Kaur), Mrs Anju Anu Malik (the composer could not make it), Bappi Lahiri (with his entire family), Shravan, Anand-Milind, Jatin-Lalit, Vipin and Himesh Reshammiya, Aadesh Shrivastava and wife Vijayeta, lyricists Javed Akhtar and Sameer, singers Suresh Wadkar (with wife Padma), Manhar Udhas, Udit Narayan, Abhijeet, Kumar Sanu, Roopkumar and Sonali Rathod, Sapna Mukherjee, Ila Arun and Adnan Sami were among the music fraternity that helped make the party a truly special occasion.
