KAMASUTRA
opens to bumper response
After a
long delay (basically die to Censor problems), this Mira Nair film ultimately
got released with 12 minor cuts. And it opened to bumper houses all over
India. Yet another proof that sex does sell. The delay in the release and
the cuts seem to have had no effect on the box-office prospects of the film.
It is expected to do good business all over.
VINASHAK
The
film didn't get a good opening inspite of all the hype, even though it was
an Id release. The collections started dropping further a couple of days
after the release. At the end of the first week the collections were at only
70 per cent. The presence of action man Sunil Shetty and his stunts doesn't
seem to have helped. Also one of the main reasons for the film not doing
well was its insipid music. Usually all Sunil Shetty films have had a couple
of hit numbers and managed a good initial. But that wasn't the case with
this film.
BANARASI
BABU
Inspite
of the presence of Hero No.1 Govinda and directed by ace director David Dhawan,
this film didn't create any waves. It failed to get a good opening inspite
of being released on Id day. At the end of the first week, the collections
were reported to be 70 to 75 per cent all over India. Uninteresting music
and the long gap of eight months between the release of music and the film
affected the collections according to trade pundits. South star Ramays's
attempts at wooing the audiences with her sexy dances seem to have come unstuck.
Stale jokes and forced comedy have not gone down well even with the masses.
A definite set back for the hit actor - director pair of Govinda and Dhawan,
who had a great run till now.
HAFTA
VASULI
The
film was released without much ado and expectedly didn't make much of an
impact at the box-office. At the end of the first week, this Jackie Shroff-Ayub
Khan- starrer recorded a dismal collection of less than 50 per
cent.
