Awards for Khosa, Kitu at Nantes and London
Kitu GidwaniGidwani has earned the best actress award for her very first major screen role. Indian cine-buffs will get to see the film at the forthcoming international film festival in Delhi being held from January 10 to 20, where it is likely to compete in the Best Asian Film section.

At the London festival held between November 6 and 23, Dance Of The Wind won the Channel 4 Guardian Audience award for British Cinema which accorded Khosa a cash prize of 10,000 pounds sterling towards the film’s promotion. The film was also short-listed for the BFI’s Sutherland Trophy. In addition, the highly regarded distribution company, Artificial Eye, bought the film for an all-Europe release.

Later, at the festival of Three Continents held in Nantes, Kitu Gidwani bagged the best actress award for her pivotal role in Dance Of The Wind. Once again, the film won the award for the most popular film. Gidwani will now be featured in Deepa Mehta’s new film, Earth, which starts shooting in Delhi in early January.

Dance Of The Wind is a co-production between Germany’s Pandora Films, Centre National de la Cinematographie (France), Filmcompany (The Netherlands), JBA (France), Illuminations (UK) and NFDC (India). The film, based on an original script written by Khosa and Robin Mukherjee, follows Pallavi, a young classical singer, who loses her voice and most of what she values in life when the woman musician who was both her mother and her mentor dies. She goes through a process of painful isolation and search in order to rediscover her identity. Dance Of The Wind also stars Delhi actors Bhavan Gosain and BC Sanyal and introduces child actress, Roshan Bano. Leading academician Kapila Malik makes a guest appearance. The original music score has been composed by Shubha Mudgal.
