DD loses rights to the Miss World contest,
Zee gains
With Zee Multimedia securing exclusive rights to the Miss World contest for
the next three years, DD has lost an opportunity to earn more revenue which
it needs urgently.
DD had the exclusive rights of Miss World for the past
three years although the former CEO of Prasar Bharati, SS Gill had decided
not to telecast the event on DD on moral grounds.
DD, according to sources, had decided to telecast the
event live but with the venue changing to London, the timing became unsuitable
for Indian viewers. In fact, a marketing agency, Vigyapan had sought permission
from DD for the live telecast of the event on Sunday but since the event
was at midnight it could not be done.
DD was also in no mood to cancel its Sunday feature
film on DD1 which generates a lot of money. But according to market experts,
DD lost about 60 lakhs by not telecasting the Miss World event.
