Chal

BRINGING UP BIG BROTHER
Everytime the young and ambitious producer Nitin
Manmohan (son of the one-time well-known villain, Manmohan) produces a
film, it becomes a major subject of conversation in all circles of film
entertainment. Nitin

started at a very young age, learned the ropes
of the trade as fast as he could (he was the first of the smart generation,
the generation which first learns to do the impossible and then defies
the world, its values and systems even daring, to say no to the most daring
challenges he is faced with in any way, any subject which becomes a major
issue in society they live in. I always
wanted to be a filmmaker. I was not happy with
the way Hindi films were being made ever
since I remember. I decided to take on all kinds of challenges and even
to make challenges my choices and make films which reached out to as many
people as possible. Giving entertainment, quality entertainment of a very
high kind (and by high kind I mean the kind which really makes every man
who pays money to buy his ticket happy). That was how I started, just
with an idea. That was how I worked and made my mark and thats how
Neha Arts, my banner has reached where it has today, certainly even my
critics will agree. A banner to respect, a banner which hopes to fly high
far higher than many of my contemporaries.
My latest involvement, Chal Mere Bhai, is a massive entertainer which
has I can say very humbly several lessons to learn for the industry if
it has to survive the crisis it keeps talking about and cribbing without
finding the time or the inclination to find solutions to them. I have
made Chal Mere Bhai, directly made under my supervision, of course my
director David has always been a super source of inspiration. And the
results have given me the satisfaction I have always been looking for
in all my films. It is not a great film but it is a great fun film when
it comes to fun in films, when it becomes a great family entertainer,
which gives them joy which will last till they have realised the money
they have spent on seeing Chal Mere Bhai. A great family entertainer is
greater than a masterpiece or an epic, Nitin the man always on the move
to make one more masterpiece his own way says. And thats just what
he has done in Chal Mere Bhai.

The story is about two brothers Vicky (Sanjay Dutt) and Prem Oberoi (Salman
Khan). Their love for each other is better than the bonds between the
best bonds among bonds of human relationships. Vicky is a business tycoon
and looks after a group of multinational companies. He is serious, responsible,
hard working. He cares for his family more than his business, he cares
for his brother Prem (Salman Khan) specially. Prem wants to be an actor.
He is interested in theatre, in music, in anything to do with entertainment.
He is inspired by his brother Vicky and his grandmother Sushma Seth. His
father, Balraj

Oberoi (Dalip Tahil) is, however, against all
this and says Band kar do yeh naach gaana. There is a crisis of emotions
in the family. Sapna (Karisma Kapoor) appears for an interview for a job
before the stern Vicky. He rejects her for lack of experience. Balraj
Oberoi, (Dalip Tahil) however, loves her innocence, employs her as Vickys
secretary. He is the chairman of the group of companies, after all.
Sapna is in jitters whenever she sees Vicky and does all the wrong things
which irritate Vicky no end. Complications, more complications!
Prem meets Sapna through her uncle who works with Prem on stage. Prem
knows that Sapna is working for his brother Vicky. Cruel circumstances
lead Sapna to save Vicky who is badly hurt in a fight. Sapna gradually
starts nursing Vicky. The entire Oberoi family take to Sapna and even
take a liking for her and work out a plan to see that Vicky marries Sapna.
But Prem is outsmarts their plans. He has already fallen in love with
Sapna. Complications, more complications! Vicky recovers. His father
and grandmother ask him to marry Sapna for all that she has done for him.
Sapna is in a fix, an emotional fix. Vicky relents at first but finally
agrees without knowing that Prem and Sapna are already in love. A little
before Prem can tell his family about his love for Sapna he comes to know
that Vicky has agreed to marry Sapna. Vicky makes Prem too agree that
Sapna is the right girl for him. Complications, more complications between
big brother and small brother.
The complications? One - Sapna. Finally it is destiny who decides which
way life will go for whom. Will Prem sacrifice his life for Sapna. Will
Sapna marry Vicky. Some more complications. But all is well that ends
well. Complications that lead to solutions for all times. Love has to
reach its destination if it is true love. Happiness spreads all around
the Oberoi family. And you go home with a big bright smile on your face.
If not, you are not supposed to be normal. The film is directed by DD
David Dhawan for whom fun for every man has now become an ism, almost
a religion. Shakti Kapoor, Asrani and Himani Shivpuri play other key roles.
Music and lyrics are given new dimensions by Anu Malik and Sameer. Chal
Mere Bhai is the kind of entertainment the vacations eagerly wait for
and that is just when Nitin is planning to release the film, April 28.
Cinematography is by Harmeet Singh and if it is DD he has to have his
entire team of technicians and artists down to the spotboy who know what
fun means to their guru DD, the guru of fun. What a guru the
industry has found in DD!
