Sun Network To Go Pay

The Delhi High Court issued notices and passed an ad interim injunction against several cable operators in Delhi, Gujarat, MP and UP following a suit filed by ESPN and Fox Sports.

The order passed by Justice Mukundakam Sharma restrains the cable operators from distributing and telecasting ESPN, Star Sports, Fox Sports, Super Sports and Pehla Plus channels till the next date of hearing which is on November 21, 2002.

Counsels Rajiv Nayar and N Ganapathy appearing for the sports channels submitted that the cable operators had service contracts with them which have now expired.

They further submitted that despite their being no fresh service contract between the parties, the cable operators were telecasting these channels without paying for the service.

The court appointed 6 local commissioners to visit the premises of the cable operators and take photographs and video films of all those responsible for broadcasting the sports channels.

Sony Keen On News, Music Channels

The Sony network is planning to add a news and a music channel to complete its bouquet. Currently, it has Sony Entertainment Television, Sony Max, Discovery, AXN, CNBC and Animal Planet. Although not divulging any details on the broadcasters or production houses that Sony is talking to for the news and music channels, head of Sony-Discovery joint venture Shantanu Aditya told reporters on the sidelines of a conference here that the channel was interested in the two genres. For sports, it’s not planning a separate channel, but it already has Sony Max with a lot of cricket going there. Recently, there was talk about NDTV, which provides news to Star, opting for a venture with the Sony network for a news channel. But, there’s no confirmation of that from any of the sides.
