Just five episodes old and the makers, Vipul D Shah and Sanjiv Sharma are already incorporating changes in the musical show, Kismey Kitnaa Hai Dam. Hosted by Sonu Nigam, it is based on a foreign show, Endemol Night Fever and is basically a sing-along karaoke show. With ten celebrities, five girls and five boys on each side and a live audience of 600, the show set out to be an entertaining show. Though it had a very good opening with 8.1 TRP, subsequently it came down to around 6.

One of the main reasons for the decline in TRPs could be the fact that Sonu Nigam’s participation in the show was negligible.

With co-hosts Hussain and Gul Panang who mix with the live crowd and a judge who also sings, Sonu’s role was reduced to that of prodding the participants to sing. But all that changed with the last episode which had Sonu in a new avtaar. Right from his hairstyle (he sported jelled hair initially, which Sonu confessed did not go down well with the viewers) to his active involvement in the goings-on of Kismey Kitnaa Hai Dam, the show has introduced slight changes in every round. Last week, one saw the camera focussed on Sonu more often and what’s more he performed with guest Falguni Pathak at the end with gusto.

When asked what prompted the changes, Sanjiv Sharma said that it was done to make the show more interesting. “People wanted more of Sonu’s participation and we are just tweaking the format with slight changes.” Whether Sonu’s renewed vigour will help in luring the viewers is something we have to wait and watch.

Also, with rival Zee pitting a game show Khelo Number Khelo against Kismey Kitnaa Hai Dam the competition is getting stiff, though Deepak Saigal, creative director, STAR Plus dismisses it saying, “They have tried these stunts earlier but failed.” Interestingly, Kismey Kitnaa Hai Dam has introduced the changes just a week after Khelo Number Khelo went on air.
