Kamal Haasan’s Panchanthanthiram launched

After the success of PKS (Pammal K Sambandam) Kamal Haasan’s next film Panchanthantiram, directed by KS Ravikumar was launched in Chennai with great fanfare. The entire cast of Kamal Haasan, Simran, Jayram, Urvashi, Yughi Sethu, Aishwarya, Sreeman and Vidya Venkatesh took the mike and just laughed, to the surprise of all present before Kamal Haasan explained that the film is a laugh riot.

In the film Kamal Haasan is a pilot and Simran is his wife, Yughi Sethu and wife Aishwarya are a Brahmin couple, Jayram and Urvasi are Kerala Nairs, Sreeman and wife Vidya Venkatesh are Reddys. All of them were classmates and now meet after a long time. The different languages and its meanings as well cultures create a riotous laugh.

Publicity campaign for the film has begun in all earnest. In the arterial Mount Road in the city, the film’s hoarding has come up in a spot usually booked by MNC’s. This 2500 sqft hoarding is the costliest in the city. At Kamal Haasan’s initiative, Canadian airlines has sponsored the shoot of the film inside their aircraft and in Canada.

Besides Ramya Krishnan and Devyani, many big names have agreed to make guest appearances in the film.

Varsham Ellam Vasantham sets a trend

Supergood films Punnagai Desam with youngsters Tharun, Kunal and Sneha has set off a trend to produce films with youngsters. Next in line is Varsham Ellam Vasantham, directed by Ravisankar, an associate of K Bhagyaraj. Speaking about the film, Ravisankar said, “It’s a story of three friends who will give their lives for each other. Manoj, Kunal and Anitha are the three friends. When friendship turns to love, differences crop between them but it too gets paled out in front of their friendship.”

Ravisankar, who worked in the editorial department of Bhagya, first entered the Chowduri camp as lyrics writer. He wrote the hit song “Rosa poov chinna rosapov ...”in Suryavamsham and and later for Priyamudan. “It’s also a family entertainer,” says the director. Lawrence, Sangavi, Anandraj, MN Nambiar, Nalini, Anumohan, Pandu, Sugumari, Subhashini and Madanbob play important roles in the film. Cinematography by Rajarajan, the film is scheduled for March release.
