For a girl like you was it difficult making an entry?
This is the question everyone asks me. I hail from a family of artistes. My grandmother, Protima Devi is yesteryears Kannada actress, my uncle SV Rajendra Singh Babu, a renowned director and one more aunty and uncle are producers of Kannada cinema. My father, Nagaraj Singh is also a former producer. He has produced 15 films.

Why is the launch getting delayed?
I have a firm mind not to get routed through my family influence. I believe very strongly on luck. When luck checks in nobody asks.

Do you have any background of training in acting?
No. I studied in Mysore and did a fashion designing course. I have a passion for acting and that has brought me to my debut in Vandematharam. Then I acted in small roles in Brahma Vishnu, Anjali Geethanjali and have now finished playing a granddaughter to the veterans Lakshmi and Ananthnag in Amma, a Kannada film for director D Rajendra Babu. I am not satisfied with my films so far.

You are getting that satisfaction in television serials?
Definitely. I am greatly indebted to director-actor Ravikiran. I got an opportunity to act in this through a journalist friend, Suman Kittur. In Bandhavya I am playing a powerful role of Ganga in the television serial that runs up to 280 episodes. I am in 250 episodes.

What has been the response like?
Wherever I go people call me Ganga and I am slowly forgetting my original name. At a sweet stall in Mysore, I was mobbed by girls of my age. One thing is sure, what I could not get on the big screen so far I am getting it on small screen. As far as popularity is concerned the small screen has beaten the big screen. How can an artiste like me get so popular?

What are the roles you intend to do?
I am looking for naughty and mischievous roles, as well as angry and comic roles.

Do you ape somebody?
I was a fan of actress Malashri. I used to wear the costumes she used to wear in films. I also used to cut my hair like Malashri’s.
