The day of August
20 is always one of excitement for the Indian community in New York.
For, it is on this day that the India Parade is held. This year,
the day was special for singer-composer Parvati Khan too. For she
was at the Parade, standing beside the Mayor of New York, Rudy Giuliani,
presenting her composition Insaniyat ke naam. The song on global
unity and humanity, was sung before the huge congregation at the
Review Stand on 20th St. Besides the Mayor of New York, others present
included the Indian Ambassador to the USA, Lalit Mansingh, the Indian
Ambassador to the UN and the Indian Consul General NY, Shashi Tripathi,
and Mike Bloomberg.
Parvati was
deeply touched by the respect shown to her by Mayor Giuliani, who
told her, "I am looking looking forward to hearing you."
She said her song got an overwhelming response, and the Mayors
compliment. "It was indeed a moment of honour for me, standing
beside the Mayor, and before thousands of Indians who had gathered,"
gushed Parvati, "A great opportunity to promote the cause which
I have been pursuing for the last 12 years. I presented the Mayor
with a translation of the song to enable his fullest appreciation."

Parvati had
earlier performed her composition Down with the guns at the General
Assembly Hall at UN, last year, and also met with Secretary General
Kofi Annan in the same regard. She had also met former President
of US, Bill Clinton with regard to the request for support on furthering
the cause universal brotherhood.
The singer-composer
now wants to approach President George Bush to make an appeal to
him on the same issue. She also plans to release her composition
Down with the guns, in collaboration with an American artist, internationally.
Also, she hopes her global peace composition will be played at a
Heads of State meeting, and at the White House as well.
