Anjali Geetanjali
Worth a dekko

S. Narayan has once again proved that he is a safe bet for the producers. From Chaitrada Premanjali made ten years ago to the recent Anjali Geetanjali, he has given variety of thoughts in his 20-odd films. The last half an hour in this is very gripping with refined thought to the love triangle. Narayan, besides being a good director in Kannada, is emerging as a good hero too.

Anjali GeetanjliSagar (S. Narayan), an orphan grown up under miserable conditions, is a wildlife photographer. He is a wanderer. And while moving around the green hilly region, he falls for a pretty widow, Geetanjali who is also dumb. But Anjali loves him. Thus he is forced to encounter the mild Geetanjali and a wild Anjali. It is the elders who object to widow remarriage. On the other hand, the cantankerous Anjali is not willing to let go her lover. She makes frantic efforts to woo him but in vain. Finally it is the charged drama that opens her mind. How that happens is quite an engaging climax.

Director S. Narayan has very cleverly handled the 13 reels with a mixture of romance, drama, dance and fights. He crosses the limits only in some portions by bringing in double meaning dialogues. This is the last film of the Dhirendra Gopal and the director has paid the right tribute to him in the film.

Prema is wasted but looks very pretty. Anu Prabhakar is amazing and in a cantankerous role, she has proved that she is here to stay. Narayan shines as a director by putting in good production values. Ravichandran is okay in emotion-filled roles.

Camera work by Mahendran is pleasing. Prashanthraj’s scores two lovely tunes. This is an above average film.

Being made under the banner of Hrudayeshwari Films, the film is produced by Govindu and has story-screenplay-dialogue and direction by S. Narayan. Music is by Prashanthraj and cinematography by A. C. Mahendran. It stars S. Narayan, Prema, Anu Prabhakar, Karibasavaiah, Dhirendra Gopal, K. S. Ashwath, Padma Vasanthi, Kishori Ballal and Master Chandan.
