The
11th Cairo International Film Festival was held from March 12 -
20, 2001.
A Greek film,
The Canary Yellow Bicycle, directed by Dimitris Stavrakas and produced
by Greek Film Center, won the Golden Cairo for FeatureFilms. The
film is an intimate portait of a childs struggle to connect
with the world.
A Swedish film,
Star Sisters, directed by Tobias Falk and produced by The Swedish
Film Institute, bagged the Silver Cairo for Feature Films. The film
gives a strong message about a childs right to independence.
A French film Le, Chateau de Singes, directed by Jean Francois Laguionie
and produced by Les films du Triangle, received the Bronze Cairo
for Feature Films. This is an exciting fantasy adventure.
An Indian film,
The Goal, directed by Gulbhar Singh and produced by Childrens
Film Society, India, got a Special International Jurys prize.
The Goal is beautiful story that tackles prejudice. Prizes were
also given to short films.
The Finnish
Film, In to the Night, got the Golden Cairo for Short Films. This
movies is about teenage feelings, exploring anxietius and worries
in a difficult situation. It is directed by Klaras Haro and produced
by Kino Production of Finland.
The Silver
Cairo for feature films went to the Egyptian film, The Berry Tree.
The movie presents the relationship between children and adults.
Its directed by Khaled Hamad and produced by the High Cinema
Institute, Egypt.
