ON HIS ACTING DEBUT

You were a child artiste in films. And now you are all set to become a hero. Why did you decide to take the plunge now, since you had maintained all along you would never do films. You had even refused an offer from Shekhar Kapur for Ta Ra Rum Pum?
To tell you the truth, I still haven’t come to terms with the fact that I’ll be playing a hero in films. After the video of Bijuria, in which I had vigorous filmi dance steps, I started getting a lot of film offers. So I decided on giving it a try. Last week itself I got 50 offers. Ramesh Taurani of Tips too was insistent that I get into films. He’d always tell me, “Arre baba abhi tu hero ban jaa meri film mein.” (Sonu imitates Ramesh Taurani’s Sindhi style of speaking).
I have signed three films, one of which is with Tips. But the shooting is yet to begin for any. There is some political pressure on Ramesh Taurani not to start a film with me. So we are waiting.

Are you taking acting lessons?
Not yet. I am very nervous about the whole thing and mentally not prepared for acting. I am sceptical if I’ll be able to deliver the goods, and whether I’ll be able to match the high standards set by Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Hrithik Roshan.
