(Crouching Tiger wins Oscar)

Ang Lee’s martial-arts epic, Columbi Tristar Film’s Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (CTHD) has grossed a spectacular $ 100 million worldwide and earned the honour of becoming the highest grossing foreign language film ever in the United States in now set to release in India.

Set in 19th Century China, the action filled project, chronicles the turbulent lives of two remarkable women whose destinies intertwine : An aristocrat’s daughter who takes on the identity of the country’s most wanted criminal, only to be torn between a life of privilege and the freedom to love: And China’s most renowned woman warrior, who pursues justice for her people over personal fulfillment. It stars Chow Yun-Fat, Michelle Yeoh, Zhang Zi Yi, Chang Chen. Combat scenes are choreographed by the legendary Yuen Wo Ping (The Matrix).

Inspired from a Chinese phrase referring to a place where mysterious power lurks, it characterizes situations wherein dwell legends.

Combining extraordinary special effects and martial arts, the film is a visual treat where the actors move like fairies, using swords like calligraphy on paper, the film tells of unfulfilled love, of magic, madness and ofcourse humour. When the 400 years old sward gets stolen and is replaced mysteriously the caretaker without the slightest stress claims, “it disappears and then it returns, strange.” With outstanding performances from the entire cast and breath-taking cinematography, Crouching Tiger a not-to-be missed film.
