Wardrobe Wrap
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gone are those frilly frocks, that flaming red lipstick and
the unkempt hair. With Rangeela in 1995, and with lots of
help from designer Manish Malhotra, Urmila Matondkar went
from seedhi-saadhi to sensuous, giving up her conservative
Maharashtrian wardrobe for designer togs and swanky sportswear.
In Rangeela, she wore everything from a sheer white tee (all
wet and transparent) and a black swimsuit to a strappy red
number. "She has the kind of figure that most women would
kill for," says Malhotra, who came up with most of Matondkar's
show-stopping outfits. Malhotra even walked away with a special
award for his Rangeela creations, then outdid himself in Daud,
where he attempted to give her an even sexier look.
This time
round, it was all plunging necklines and tight jeans, which
was definitely more appreciated than the film itself. In Judaai
and much to the surprise of both critics and audiences the
sexy siren draped herself in silk sarees of every available
shade. In Satya, they were sarees of another kind: simple,
cotton ones which concealed most of that sought-after booty.
By the
time she delivered some 12 bombs in a row (including Aflatoon,
Jaanam Samjha Karo, Khoobsurat, Hum Tum Pe Marte Hain, Mast,
Koun, Dillagi, Deewane, Kunwara), she had established the
fact that she was a stunner. And with her latest, Pyaar Tune
Kya Kiya, in which she's opted for a short, mangy-dog kind
of hairdo, Urmila returns to that sexy look complete with
sporty tank tops and tight cycling shorts.
Early
photographs from such films as Aa Gale Lag Ja or Chamatkaar
aren't greeted with either excitement or nostalgic pleasantness.
She'd much rather you wipe away those memories for good. She's
sexy, and happy to be so!
