statistics about the Oscars

*The film that won the most Oscars was Titanic in 1997. It was nominated in 14 categories and picked up 11 awards .



*Jack Nicholson in the actor to have been nominated the maximum number of times... 11 in all. Close on his heels was Sir Lawrence Oliver with 11 nominations. However, Oliver was also nominated in the Best Director category
.
*Tatum O’Neil was the youngest Oscar winner. She was only 10 when she won one of the golden statuettes.

*The actress to have won the most Oscars is Katherine Hepburn. She won four golds after being nominated 12 times.

*In 1961 the Best Director Award was shared by two film-makers, Robert Wise and Jerrome Robberts for West Side Story, the film that inspired Mansoor Khan’s Josh.

*The director with the maximum Oscars is John Ford. He bagged the coveted award four times.

*The first nominee to win the honour posthumously was Sidney Howard in 1939. He bagged it for his award-winning screenplay for the Hollywood classic, Gone With The Wind.

*The unluckiest films at the Academy were The Turning Point and The Colour Purple. Both films got as many as 11 nominations....but not one Oscar.

*Despite being nominated seven times Peter O’ Toole and Richard Burton never won an Oscar.

*Best Actress Greer Garson in 1942 made the longest “thank you” speech. It went on for seven long minutes.

*Sidney Poitier was the only African-American to win the Best Actor Award. He received the coveted award for his unforgettable performance in Lilies Of The Field in 1963.

*The highest Oscar winner is Walt Disney.
