Screen - The Business of entertainment

Rajesh Khanna scores a hat-trick with Karmakshetra
After ttefaq and Apne Paraye Rajesh Khanna has given the nod to another small screen extravaganza. This 52-episode serial Karmakshetra is being directed by V. Menon for producer NN Modi. The serial has music by Madan Shankar and is being made under the banner of Shree Sai Dwarka International. Besides Kaka who plays the central role, Kamakshetra also stars Anant Mahadevan, Sudha Chandran and Lalit Tiwari.

Reema Lagoo faces an identity crisis
Aanchal Ke Chhaon Mein premiered on Zee on February 6. The serial is about one woman, Lalita Joshi’s struggle to give her family a decent life. It is her attachment to her family that results in Lalita having to decide between her family and her personal growth. This millennium Lalitaji is being played by Reema Lagoo who must be relieved to break free of the Tu Tu Main Main kind of laugh riots and sink her teeth into a real "woman of substance" kind of role. The serial is being directed by Rakesh Sarang whose Ashirwad is one of the channel’s crowd-pullers. Another feather in Sarang’s cap is Aarambh, a Marathi serial on Tara, that has Renuka Shahane and Mansi Salvi doing their own bit for woman’s lib.

Tara hooked and booked
Actress, model and author Tara Deshpande is all set to make headlines with her new book. Her publishers describe it as the first "Internet" book. Tara will get the show on the road with the first chapter and then invite readers to write alternate chapters and carry the story forward. Prizes will be awarded for guessing the end. Tara promises a heady mix of politics and crime and is confident that her interactive electronic experiment will net her an overwhelming response. You can log onto the first chapter by logging on www.themotive.net.

It’s an all-woman’s show on this channel

It is also hoping to find an audience with the NRI community in North America and Europe the through DTH platform. The project which is estimated to cost its financier, the Las Vegas based software production house, Delaney Productions and Delhi-based broadcasting solution provider, Digital Broadcasting, a cool Rs 100 crores, is the first of its kind experiment in India.
