Khanna scores a hat-trick with Karmakshetra
After ttefaq and Apne Paraye Rajesh Khanna has given the nod
to another small screen extravaganza. This 52-episode serial
Karmakshetra is being directed by V. Menon for producer NN
Modi. The serial has music by Madan Shankar and is being made
under the banner of Shree Sai Dwarka International. Besides
Kaka who plays the central role, Kamakshetra also stars Anant
Mahadevan, Sudha Chandran and Lalit Tiwari.
Reema
Lagoo faces an identity crisis
Aanchal Ke Chhaon Mein premiered on Zee on February 6. The
serial is about one woman, Lalita Joshis struggle to
give her family a decent life. It is her attachment to her
family that results in Lalita having to decide between her
family and her personal growth. This millennium Lalitaji is
being played by Reema Lagoo who must be relieved to break
free of the Tu Tu Main Main kind of laugh riots and sink her
teeth into a real "woman of substance" kind of role.
The serial is being directed by Rakesh Sarang whose Ashirwad
is one of the channels crowd-pullers. Another feather
in Sarangs cap is Aarambh, a Marathi serial on Tara,
that has Renuka Shahane and Mansi Salvi doing their own bit
for womans lib.
Tara
hooked and booked
Actress, model and author Tara Deshpande is all set to make
headlines with her new book. Her publishers describe it as
the first "Internet" book. Tara will get the show
on the road with the first chapter and then invite readers
to write alternate chapters and carry the story forward. Prizes
will be awarded for guessing the end. Tara promises a heady
mix of politics and crime and is confident that her interactive
electronic experiment will net her an overwhelming response.

Its
an all-womans show on this channel
A 24-hour all women satellite channel World of Women will
be launched by mid-2001. A bilingual, in Hindi and English,
the channel hopes to hook women in the metroes in the age
group of 13 to 49. It is also hoping to find an audience with
the NRI community in North America and Europe the through
DTH platform. The project which is estimated to cost its financier,
the Las Vegas based software production house, Delaney Productions
and Delhi-based broadcasting solution provider, Digital Broadcasting,
a cool Rs 100 crores, is the first of its kind experiment
in India.
