BPL Mobile launches chatrooms on mobile phone

BPL Mobile Communications Ltd., Mumbai’s premier mobilephone service provider has launched India’s first Wireless Internet Chat Service - miChat for BPL Mobile subscribers in Mumbai. This service allows BPL Mobile subscribers to enter into virtual chatrooms and chat with other subscribers. Targeted at the ‘young adults and late teens’ segment, this application, based on the SMS platform enables Mobile Chats. This ensures that the service is available to all subscribers without a change in their handsets. The technology behind this service has been provided by iSolv, a wireless applications company from Pune.

Speaking at the launch, B.P. Singh, Chief Operating Officer, BPL Mobile, Mumbai said, “BPL Mobile has played a significant role in furthering usage of mobile phones in India. As a leader in its field BPL Mobile has consistently been providing unique applications to its customers. With our technological strengths we are in a position to constantly explore new frontiers of mobile applications and share the same with our customers.”

Chatting on the net has emerged as the most popular net application today. Estimated at 3.5 million users today, it’s expected to grow at a staggering 100% annually. Milind Agnihotiri, Managing Director & CEO of iSlov said, “Mobile Internet is all about “Save Time or Kill Time” applications. While the ‘Save Time’ applications provides productivity improvement through on-the-go access to Corporate Emails or Databases, the ‘Kill Time’ applications provide fun and entertainment like miChat. Bringing such services to the market requires the vision of leaders like BPL Mobile, with whom iSolv is proud to partner”.

Using miChat is extremely simple. A user can log in with any assumed name into any public chat rooms available across a range of subjects. With an identity chosen on the fly, the user can enjoy anonymous chatting and connect to strangers in the virtual world. A logged-in user can chat with everyone or send private messages and switching of chat rooms can be done at will.
