TARA (Marathi) launches nine new programmes
Broadcast Worldwides TARA (Television Aimed at Regional
Audiences) channel in Marathi which commenced beaming its
programme in May 2000 is airing nine new programmes during
this month (February). They are all weekly soaps, the scheduled
date and time of their launch being as under:
Tarunai from 12th Feb (every Monday at 10.15 pm), Bhoomi from
13th Feb (every Tuesday at 9.30 pm), Portrait from 14th Feb
(every Wednesday at 9.30 pm), Shantata Court Chalu Ahe from
15th Feb (every Thursday at 9.30 pm) and Dhund Madhumati from
Thursday 15th Feb (every Thursday at 10 pm). The remaining
four are scheduled to be aired from Sunday 18th Feb and thereafter
every Sunday at the time mentioned against each. These are
Tara Kids Club at 9 am, Tarankika at 11.30 am, Paulkhuna at
1.00 pm and Hit Beats at 4.30 pm. Two of these programmes,
Bhoomi and Paulkhuna, are produced by Miditech Television.
The remaining seven are in-house productions of TARA.
Tarunai is a Marathi pop music programme being directed by
Atul Mankar and will bring to the viewers live performances
of pop singers like Vaishali Samant, Avdhoot Gupte and Mithilesh
Patankar.
Bhoomi, an infotainment programme, is a half-hour magazine
show taking the viewers on a journey through the fascinating
land called India.
Portrait being directed by Ajay Bhalwankar, is a tete-a-tete
with interesting personalities like Gautam Rajyadhyaksha and
Ketaki Gupte, to name just a few. Journalist Nilu Damle hosts
the show.
Hantata Court Chalu Ahe is an interactive programme being
directed by Amol Khamkar. It has the "Lok Adalat"
format and is designed to take up real life incidents of human
rights violations. Neera Adarkar, an architect turned activist,
anchors the programme.
Dhund Madhumati is a musical programme based on old romantic
songs (Bhav Geets) in the voice of young talented singers.
It is being directed by Mahendra Kadam.
Tara Kids Club is a show meant for children designed to cover
their curricular and extra-curicular activities including
annual school gatherings, inter-school competitions, quiz
contests and adventure camps. Sameer Bhole directs the programme.
Tarankika is a theatre based programme presenting one-act
plays. Its director is again Sameer Bhole.
Paulkhuna, which means "Footprints", is another
infotainment programme which is in a half-hour magazine format.
Packed with details and information about different places,
it is designed to take the viewers through the labyrinths
of Indias past and the present, her festivals and rituals
and make them aware of the litle known destinations of scenic,
historical and even mythological significance.
Details of these new programmes were announced at a Press
briefing last week. It was stated at this briefing that TARA
in Marathi aimed to present to the viewers the multi-hued
facets of the people of Maharashtra as reflected in their
culture, literature, politics, music and theatre. In addition
to entertainment and infotainment, the channel also offered
Maharashtrians a platform to debate views, discuss opinions
and encourage and display talent.
