TARA (Marathi) launches nine new programmes

Broadcast Worldwide’s TARA (Television Aimed at Regional Audiences) channel in Marathi which commenced beaming its programme in May 2000 is airing nine new programmes during this month (February). They are all weekly soaps, the scheduled date and time of their launch being as under:

Tarunai from 12th Feb (every Monday at 10.15 pm), Bhoomi from 13th Feb (every Tuesday at 9.30 pm), Portrait from 14th Feb (every Wednesday at 9.30 pm), Shantata Court Chalu Ahe from 15th Feb (every Thursday at 9.30 pm) and Dhund Madhumati from Thursday 15th Feb (every Thursday at 10 pm). The remaining four are scheduled to be aired from Sunday 18th Feb and thereafter every Sunday at the time mentioned against each. These are Tara Kids Club at 9 am, Tarankika at 11.30 am, Paulkhuna at 1.00 pm and Hit Beats at 4.30 pm. Two of these programmes, Bhoomi and Paulkhuna, are produced by Miditech Television. The remaining seven are in-house productions of TARA.

Tarunai is a Marathi pop music programme being directed by Atul Mankar and will bring to the viewers live performances of pop singers like Vaishali Samant, Avdhoot Gupte and Mithilesh Patankar.

Bhoomi, an infotainment programme, is a half-hour magazine show taking the viewers on a journey through the fascinating land called India.

Portrait being directed by Ajay Bhalwankar, is a tete-a-tete with interesting personalities like Gautam Rajyadhyaksha and Ketaki Gupte, to name just a few. Journalist Nilu Damle hosts the show.

Hantata Court Chalu Ahe is an interactive programme being directed by Amol Khamkar. It has the "Lok Adalat" format and is designed to take up real life incidents of human rights violations. Neera Adarkar, an architect turned activist, anchors the programme.

Dhund Madhumati is a musical programme based on old romantic songs (Bhav Geets) in the voice of young talented singers. It is being directed by Mahendra Kadam.

Tara Kids Club is a show meant for children designed to cover their curricular and extra-curicular activities including annual school gatherings, inter-school competitions, quiz contests and adventure camps. Sameer Bhole directs the programme.

Tarankika is a theatre based programme presenting one-act plays. Its director is again Sameer Bhole.

Paulkhuna, which means "Footprints", is another infotainment programme which is in a half-hour magazine format. Packed with details and information about different places, it is designed to take the viewers through the labyrinths of India’s past and the present, her festivals and rituals and make them aware of the litle known destinations of scenic, historical and even mythological significance.

Details of these new programmes were announced at a Press briefing last week. It was stated at this briefing that TARA in Marathi aimed to present to the viewers the multi-hued facets of the people of Maharashtra as reflected in their culture, literature, politics, music and theatre. In addition to entertainment and infotainment, the channel also offered Maharashtrians a platform to debate views, discuss opinions and encourage and display talent.
