Anupam’s Om Jai Jagdish launched

The talented chameleon changes colour again
No one will doubt that Anupam Kher is a versatile actor, and one of the most prolific. Starting with Saraansh that he shot for exactly 17 years and 28 days ago, Anupam has starred in over 200 films. An enviable track record for a man who was once a school teacher. Today Anupam has reached a platue and is ready to move on...

He turns director with Om Jai Jagdish that was launched recently at Mehboob Studio and is, confesses Anupam, “the beginning of some very glorious dreams I have dared to dream”. Anupam’s idol, Dilip Kumar sounded the clapper -board, the Commissioner of Police of Greater Mumbai, MN Singh, switched on the camera and Anupam’s three friends, who had stood by me through thick and thin all these years—director Satish Kaushik, producer Boney Kapoor and mediaman Pradeep Guha—broke the auspicious coconut. The first shot was canned on the entire cast chanting the mantra Om Jai Jagdish Hare. They were joined by the select gathering minutes later...a rare and spontaneous gesture.

Om Jai Jagdish produced by Vashu Bhagnani, is the story of three brothers (played by Anil Kapoor, Fardeen Khan and Abhishek Bachchan) and their much-loved sister who’s yet to be cast. Tabu, Urmila Matondkar and Miss Asia Pacific, Diya Mirza who’s making her screen debut with this film, play the lady loves of the three bhais. The film according to its “positively ambitious” director talks about the traditions, values and customs that are slowly degenerating throwing the country into a sad state of disrepair and despair. “My film brings home to us all that we have lost or are in the process of losing. I hope I succeed in my endeavour more forthe sake of my country than for my film or myself,” says Anupam who completed the first four-day schedule at Mehboob Studios recently.

Anupam is not acting in the film because he wants to direct all his energy into making of a good film. He certainly has managed to rope in an interesting cast and has some of the finest technicians from down South working on the film . The film’s art director is Sabu Cyril. Cinematography is by Vinod, script is by Rahul Nanda, lyrics are by Sameer and music is being scored by Anu Malik. The film will make fast progress once the script is perfected.

Anupam, the talented chameleon, is determined to change his colours and appear before us in a new avatar. He promises you’ll get to see a side of Anupam you have never seen before.
